About FRITZ
Fritz Michel’s songs explore the human vignettes of daily life; small details, big obstacles, family, love, and survival. He is an artist, a father, and an activist. Arriving on the heels of his 2021 EP Darker Now, the French-born New Yorker’s new EP On the Rocks draws distinct references to Fritz’s bilingual roots and his multi-faceted creative history
Engaging an array of creative collaborators, including producers Jason Cummings and Tosh Sheridan —Fritz retraces the various threads of his life’s journey and combines them into a new reality.
Fritz plays several instruments, including guitar, bass and piano. His musical preferences are varied as well, ranging from jazz to Americana to rock and roll, and, in general, anything that offers him the ability to simply tell a story. The fact that Fritz has acted and directed professionally in film, on television and on Broadway broadens his knack for imbuing his creative projects with imagination and insight.
After graduating from Yale with a history degree and following a stint in environmental journalism, he started his acting career in New York’s flourishing theater and indie film community in the late ‘90s. He made his Broadway debut acting in a revival of “Inherit the Wind” directed by Tony Randall. A move to Los Angeles found him cast in a number of high-profile films and network TV dramas, working with top actors and directors.
“I think the reward of creating music — or any art for that matter — lies in the conversation and collaboration that precedes it,” Fritz suggests. “I find I’m fully attuned to the process when I simply listen and allow myself to be receptive to those things that transpire around me.”
